A week on and we’re still recovering from the emotional roller coaster that was the Royal Wedding. It remains the hot topic of the moment yet there are still so many burning questions-was their first dance Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody, did they really eat dirty burgers and provide every guest with post-dancing fluffy slippers??!! Well there’s some things that we are sure of…we’ve now seen and analysed that dress from many a camera angle and added ‘professional lip reader’ to our CVs after working out what Harry said to Meghan at the altar. We’ve looked through the endless online galleries of the day’s “best moments” and “best dressed” but undoubtedly the most monumental fashion moment was of course when the bride stepped out of the car and her dress was revealed- all hail Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller for the main spectacle, and Stella McCartney for the sensational evening number. It wasn’t just the happy couple that had everyone talking but their guests too, with Twitter going crazy over VB’s smile…or rather lack of. Caitlin Moran even remarked, “Victoria Beckham’s scowl is the Pippa’s bum of this wedding”. Whilst I agree that such a happy day deserved a flash of pearly whites, even from the professional pouter, did we really expect anything else from Mrs B? After all she recently justified her steely facial expressions via a tongue-in-cheek tee from her collection emblazoned with the words “Fashion Stole My Smile”. If anything, I think we can actually learn two things from our gal Posh…number 1, it’s important to laugh at yourself and number 2, never underestimate the power of a t-shirt. So with this in mind, here are our top picks of statement making tees sitting pretty in WSd HQ…
If everyone in politics wore a t-shirt from the latest Rue de Femme drop, we may be one step closer to world peace…just a suggestion. Channelling the era of psychedelic art and hippy culture, the 70s style design epitomises the “Summer of Love” with its ultra ‘groovy’ slogan. Choose from a blue or red colour way for an instant dose of happiness.
Just Female is also encouraging good vibes only with its monochrome slogan tee etched with the words ‘All for Love’. As straightforward as this design may be, it certainly makes a statement and even the smallest of protests feels good- a gal’s got to start somewhere after all.
Purveyors of investment worthy, timeless and quality apparel, its little wonder that Scotch & Soda’s t-shirt game is exceptionally high this season. This brand manages to elevate the basic tee out of its rudimentary realms with exquisite detailing and luxurious fabrics. For instance take Scotch & Soda’s version of the classic tee– this wardrobe must-have has been given an update thanks to a dusky marshmallow hue which acts as the perfect neutral shade and as if things couldn’t get anymore perfect its been crafted from a soft cotton-blend with a dreamy ribbed texture.
Next up is their interpretation of the ‘relaxed’ tee, which is cut in a laid back style and combines a plain navy front and a patterned back. Mixing textures, fabrics and prints adds excitement to this summer essential and makes it ultra wearable too- whether you dress it up or down it’s already doing the hard work for you.
If you’re struggling to find that seemingly unobtainable smart/casual combination in t-shirt form then fear not because Mos Mosh is your go-to. The Cira tee stands out as an absolute must-have thanks to the loose-fit blush rose linen, which is intricately adorned with sequin clouds. Team with the brand’s signature white skinnies and the Emu Australia Lavinia rose gold kicks for a look that will take you from day time exploring to night sipping- cloud 9 defined.
You can shop all of these looks via the What Sarah did… website where you’ll also spot a whole host of other irresistible tees that will all prove themselves as worthy additions to your wardrobe. Thanks for the inspo Posh!
