Spring may be on its way but for this week’s blog I’m casting my mind back to Saturday 23rd December 2017. Sarah, Maryanne and I were full of all the festive feels as we worked away in WSd HQ serving angels of the land as well as a lot of panicked men. As closing time rolled around, the fizz cork popped and intricately wrapped gifts emerged from the deepest corners of the stock room having been secretly hidden there that morning. The three of us have admitted that we spend an awful lot of time thinking about what to get for one another and not because we’re materialistic kinda gals but because we all get so much joy from the act of gift giving between our little tribe. After a toast to a fabulous day in HQ, a happy tears filled exchange ensued with gasps, oohs, ahhs and “OMG” moments filling the festive air. Among other wonderfully thoughtful gifts I was the lucky recipient of the most beautiful tea pot in all the land- a self professed tea addict and very nearly first time home owner, it is a truly treasured piece. Maryanne and I were utterly overjoyed by Sarah’s face after she delicately unfolded layers of tissue paper and unfastened the softest of suede pouches to reveal the Chambers & Beau necklace she had been coveting. Treasure enveloped in the most luxe of packaging continued to be the theme of proceedings and Maryanne’s heart skipped a beat upon peeling away a monochrome sticker to reveal a clutch bag that in all its soft leather, cowhide, enveloped shaped beauty manifested every single one of her loves in an accessory. Sarah has discovered haogi through the wonder that is Instagram and unashamedly admits to “basically stalking them” before an inevitable conversation between creators and stylist ensued and WSd became an official stockist. It was then that Sarah spotted the perfect bag for Maz and knew that the one of a kind piece had to be hers. They say the rest is history, but we say it’s only just the beginning…
Amy and Nicky are the oh so fabulous duo behind haogi- a brand born from their friendship and “shared passion for something different”. They describe haogi as their “love child” and from the moment you set sight and touch on a haogi bag its clear that love is woven into every stitch. The same level of devotion is instilled into the design itself and a quick peruse of the haogi Instagram will turn into hours lost in a visual feast of colour, texture, pattern and perfect lattes. Artfully curated snapshots of premium leather bags dominate the page, each one showcasing a different angle, feature or detail. The square frames filled with suede and leather sumptuousness are interspersed with positive quotes, portraits of inspirational women and snippets of the very best of nature. This mood board of dreams gives a glimpse into the thought process behind haogi and the mission of its creators to be ‘one of a kind’.
Every haogi bag is named after an influential female figure and WSd is proud to be an exclusive stockist of the Erin, the Lola and the Cece. Every one proudly flies the flag for quality British design and craft, with every piece of leather cut and sewn entirely by hand.
Erin is a symphony of stripes and combines mixed textures to create a clutch/shoulder bag that’s full of new wonder with every use. This beauty is available in black or a palette of earthy, metallic shades and each ones features an optional chain strap. The leathers used by haogi are of exceptional quality and as such each bag is intentionally unlined to showcase “the gorgeous suede as well as the stunning leather”. Erin is no different and is a masterpiece of bespoke design.
Lola offers a sleek new take on the hobo bag and is the ultimate in black leather arm candy but also offers a hint of playfulness thanks to a panel of the textured stripes synonymous with Erin. Perfecting the slouch to structure ratio, this timeless silhouette is the ultimate everyday bag and one that will become your soul mate, sharing in each other’s laughter lines year after year.
Cece satisfies our “pack, cinch and go” desires in all her bucket bag glory. Effortlessly chic, this minimalist design is as equally fashionable as it is functional. I spotted a thought provoking Chanel quote on the haogi Instagram and I think Cece embodies every word spoken by the icon when she declared, “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance”.
At WSd we’re proud to support wonderfully talented independent creators and it’s been a joy and privilege to welcome Amy, Nicky and their brand to the fold…
“Our first year has been such an adventure! We have some great clients who have joined our Haogi family and share the Haogi ethos and we are collaborating with more and more gorgeous individuals! We couldn’t be happier! Still at the heart of everything is making sure people enjoy our products and go out with a smile on their faces, confident they have something just a little bit different. All we can say is watch this space… 2018 bring it on, there is so much more to come!”
Follow the haogi way and be one of a kind beauties!
